On 23 January 2025, we attended a plenary meeting of the partners affiliated with the Versopolis network, an international platform of poetry festivals. The Miłosz Festival has been a part of the network since 2023. Founded in 2014, Versopolis is a European poetry platform, which creates new opportunities for emerging European poets. The project was selected in two open calls under the Support for European Platforms initiative of the Creative Europe programme. Maria Świątkowska participated in the meeting on behalf of Kraków UNESCO City of Literature.
Participating in the Versopolis network enables us to promote Polish poets internationally and present diverse voices from the world poetry scene, often translated into Polish for the first time, to our audiences. Last year, Krakow UNESCO City of Literature nominated two Polish authors to join the network – Stanisław Jaglarz and Przemysław Suchanecki.
The Miłosz Festival is one of two Polish poetry festivals in the organisation, alongside the European Poet of Freedom. As part of the partnership, in 2024 we got to host poets Yolanda Aurora Bohm Ramirez and Yolanda Castano, as well as Ija Kiva and Antoine Cassarra in 2023.
