Starting on Wednesday June 11, the Second Life of the Book free book exchange also made its way to the hospitals. Having seen the enthusiasm that later editions of the campaign aroused and having in mind the therapeutic dimension of literature and reading itself, Second Life of the Book bookshelves were placed in nine Krakow hospitals so that all patients may use them. The campaign’s partners are: Wydawnictwo Literackie (“Literary Press”), Znak, Insignis, WAM, Sine Qua Non and IKEA Krakow. The Krakow Festival Office is the campaign’s organiser.
Thanks to this campaign, patients will have the opportunity to exchange books, constantly finding new stories in them, which is helpful in dealing with the difficult reality of staying in a hospital. The hospitals that took part in the campaign included: the John Paul II Specialised Hospital, Gabriel Narutowicz Specialised City Hospital, Brothers Hospitallers of St. John of God St. John Grande Hospital, University Children’s Hospital, Stefan Żeromski Specialised Hospital, Fifth Military Clinical Hospital with a Polyclinic, Regional Specialised Hospital, St. Louis Specialised Regional Children’s Hospital as well as the Obstetrical-Gynecological Hospital in Ujastek.
IKEA Krakow donated the green bookshelves, and they were filled thanks to the kindness of the Krakow publishers who cooperate with us, including: Wydawnictwo Literackie, Znak, WAM, Sine Qua Non and Insignis.
