There are four libraries in Krakow financed from the budget of the city (Śródmiejska, Krowoderska, Podgórska, and Nowohucka) that have a total of 56 branches, one regional library, libraries in the structures of local district cultural institutions, scientific and academic libraries (The Regional Pedagogical Library), university libraries and libraries at educational institutions (e.g. The Jagiellonian Library, The Scientific Library of the Polish Academy of Learning and the Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow), as well as libraries at other cultural institutions (The Princes Czartoryski Library or the library and reading room of the International Cultural Centre, in which publications on the European and global cultural heritage can be found). Krakow’s public libraries lend a total of more than 4 million books a year.
