The Children’s Literature Festival

The Children’s Literature Festival will be launched in about a week (on 12th May). The event will include more than 100 meetings and accompanying events to be held in Krakow, Warsaw and Wrocław over 18 days! It will be a real treat for all little bookworms, to continue until 1st June. The Krakow Festival Office is the event’s partner.

Workshops and meetings with authors and illustrators will be offered to the kids.

There will be something for :

  • enthusiasts of Scandinavian book – On the Swedish track with special guests from Sweden
  • young detectives – Detective Academy, tutored by authors of Poland’s best detective prose
  • young philosophers (Wydawnictwo Zakamarki publishers and ”Children philosophers“)
  • poetic souls (poetry workshops)
  • poetry listeners – Dark Readings after dusk.

We will not avoid very important themes, such as human rights, patriotism or tolerance. Themes such as illness, death, divorce or depression will also be dealt with in the context of literature. Some unbelievably surprising publications will also be shared.

Prominent guests from Sweden – Martin Widmark, Asa Lind, Eva Susso; from Spain – Vicente Ferrer, Begoña Lobo and from Korea – Kim Jin-kyung have been invited. Polish children’s literature will be represented by Wojciech Widłak, Maciej Wojtyszko, Andrzej Maleszka, Marcin Szczygielski, Michał Rusinek, Paweł Pawlak, Grzegorz Kasdepke, Iwona Chmielewska, Barbara Gawryluk and many other authors.

All meetings addressed to children and young people are based on interactive and learning at playing methods. Young readers will meet authors, creators of literature worlds, who will work together with the children guiding them through the world of literature.

The  Programme also envisages children’s own creative work, by putting them in the role of discoverers to raise their natural curiosity of the world. An integral part of the festival is a series of meetings with outstanding researchers who specialise in literature for children and young people. They will offer the parents solutions to their everyday dilemmas in an easily digestible way. They will show how to support the development of the child’s identity as a reader in the modern world. Lectures and debates will focus on what to pay attention for, how to evaluate, how to encourage and when to ban.

The festival will include exhibitions under the series Illustrators Salon, workshops with masters of book illustration, city games ad mural painting workshops. We are also happy to see the city authorities’ interest and involvement. At their offices, the Mayors will be reading fairy tales to children. All events will take place in the finest and the most prestigious venues of Krakow, Warsaw and Wrocław. The Children’s Literature Festival is the first initiative of the type bringing together culture institutions, writers and scientists, parents and children, as well book professionals and enthusiasts.
